BYC Notice of Race for 2007
I. Organizing Authority
1. The organizing authority will be The Brockport Yacht Club, Race Organizing
Committee (ROC).
II. Venue
1. Racing will start and finish within a 2.5 mile radius of the mouth of Sandy
Creek.
III. Rules
1. All BYC Races will be governed by the current ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS),
and the prescriptions of US Sailing (USSA).
2. Specifics for any given race (Notices to Competitors), if any, will be posted
on the Race Notice board located in the BYC clubhouse.
3. A member of BYC must be present on all competing boats unless modified by
specific Race Instructions.
4. All yachts must carry liability insurance.
IV. Handicap
1. Keelboat races shall be handicapped in accordance with PHRF-LO Time on Time.
PHRF handicapping allows for a “Club adjusted rating” for extenuating
circumstances.
2. Sunfish classes shall be sailed as one design and in accordance with Sunfish
Class rules, or as may be modified in specific Race Instructions, to be posted
on the BYC race notice board.
V. Scoring
1. BYC will use the RRS Low Point system as described in Rule 89.3 and Appendix
A. Competitors receiving letter scores (see A11) in a BYC division-specific race
SERIES, shall be scored in accordance with Appendix A rule A9. The Low Point use
of letter scores shall not be used for awards where several individual class
scores are combined. BYC specific award charters shall be in effect for combined
awards. Low Point letter scores may only be used after all non-letter scores
have been used for a series where allowable. Letter scores may NOT be
substituted for non-letter scores. When the use of letter scores is applicable,
a competitor may use their best letter scores (from best to worst).
VI. Classes
1. Classes shall be as follows:
Division 1: PHRF-LO handicap 217 and higher.
Division 2: PHRF-LO handicap 216
Division 3: PHRF-LO handicap 215 and lower.
Division A: PHRF 222 and lower.
Division B: PHRF 223 and higher.
Division C: Cruising Boats
Division C, Cruising boats, will be defined by having a full keel, wing or bulb
keel, and /or a dodger (up while racing) and /or a bimini top. The ROC will have
final determination over cruising boat status.
Divisions A, B & C must declare the intention to race in these divisions
before the
start of the Holiday Series. Skippers must declare to the Race Committee at the
skippers meeting. These divisions are used for the Holiday Race series.
Divisions A, B& C are boats that did not race in the Wednesday night series.
Sunfish Fleet:
Sunfish classes shall be sailed as one design and in accordance with Sunfish
Class rules, or as may be modified in specific Race Instructions, to be posted
on the BYC race notice board..
VII. Conduct of Races
1. All Races shall be held in accordance with the BYC published schedule.
2. The Race Instructions (RI) shall govern the conduct of specific races and
series. Written Race Instructions will be available in the BYC Clubhouse.
3. Wednesday evening races will not hold a competitors meeting before each race.
Wednesday evening Races will Start (Warning signal) at 6:30 pm through August 8.
Wednesday evening Races will Start (Warning signal) at 6:00 pm beginning
August 15.
4. All other Races shall begin with a competitors meeting ashore.
VIII. Race Series
Wednesday night Keelboat Races shall be sailed in series as follows:
1. Spring Flag Series, 8 races scheduled. The actual number may be reduced by
abandonment’s.
2. Summer Flag Series, 7 races scheduled. The actual number may be reduced by
abandonment’s.
3. Fall Flag Series, 4 Races scheduled. The actual number may be reduced by
abandonment’s.
The Holiday series shall be held as published in the BYC race schedule.
IX: Awards
1. Spring Flag series will be awarded Flags based on the best 6 races of the 8
scheduled. Each abandonment shall reduce the series by one race. The qualifying
races shall then be the actual races held for the series less 2 exclusions. I.e.
2 abandonment's shall reduce the series to 6 races and with 2 exclusions, 4
races count as qualifiers. Summer Flag series will be awarded Flags based on the
best of 5 races of the 7 scheduled. Each abandonment shall also reduce the
series by one race.
3. The Wednesday night perpetual cup series shall be awarded based on the best
11 races of the combined Spring Flag and Summer Flag series (15 races
scheduled). For the perpetual cup series, each abandonment shall reduce the
series by one race. The qualifying races shall then be the actual races held for
the series less 4 exclusions. I.e., 2 abandonment's shall reduce the series to
13 races and with 4 exclusions 9 races count as qualifiers.
4. The Fall Flag series will be awarded flags based on the best 2 of 4 races
scheduled.
5. All other Cups, Flags and Plaques shall be awarded as governed by the
specific award charters (See your BYC members handbook).
